Do not stop to get tax.
Go get tax in other car or walk/tax online.
Drive vehicle :)
That's what I did :)
The only thing I had to do slightly different was stop for fuel on the way as it only had 2 litres in it... and it's a 4.6!
You will need insurance.

Fully agree, know someone who had insurance, drove direct to garage, passed MOT, then drove to town to get tax, but was stopped by those double camera bobbies, Had his car impounded
Double whammy, had to pay to get it back £120, plus £12 per day, then fined £80 and ordered to pay 2 months back tax dispite not having a mot.
Some garages now offer a service and allow you to tax it "online" at there premisies (slight fee) if you take the v5 with you.
Thing is i think by law you still have to display the disc, fined if not, since it take 5 days to come (longer now) then best to drive home direct , and get it at the PO.
Also seen written by a local brief in a local rag, that you can still be done and taken to court, although no one i know done yet, its up to you to use the pre-book in your defence, some plod forces will let you off if you can prove it (pre-booked) and within reasonable distance of the mot station from home and within the time scale, so no driving hundreds of miles.

--- Quote from: "littlepow" ---You can drive a vehicle with an expired or failed MOT, to and from the test station or the garage where remedial work is to be carried out.
But all journeys have to be direct, and all work has to be have been prebooked.
You will still be required to have tax and insurance for the vehicle.

You do not need tax.. for a start you cant get it without a valid MOT???
Cheers Steve

Don't know.
But the back of a failed MOT cert specifies the requirement for road tax and insurance before taking the vehicle onto the road, to get it retest or if test has expired.
As they right the rules, then that's what we have to follow. Didn't say they were sensible or helpful.
Thrasher:
That's a failed MOT cert. For vehicle's that have been SORNED, this cannot apply, as it is not possible to get tax without the MOT :)
littlepow:
A vehicle that is SORN registered can not be driven/parked on public highway under any circumstances. To do so is a breech of the SORN rules.
If the vehicle has no valid road fund leicense, then it has to be trailled to the test center, until a valid MOT and tax have been issued.
Thrasher:
Nope ... the DVLA site clearly states if it has a prebooked MOT it can be driven to and from the centre as long as it is insured.
"Getting a vehicle covered by a SORN to an MOT testing station
It might be helpful if I explain that there is an exemption from Vehicle Excise Duty (VED) under Part 2, Section 22 of the Vehicle Excise and Registration Act (VERA) 1994 for a vehicle to travel to and from a testing station for the purpose of a pre-arranged MOT test. This exemption is only afforded whilst a vehicle is in use for the purpose of testing, and does not apply if it is merely kept on the road."
