Where To Go & What To Do
Bush Tucker Man:
On the back of the idea for the new 'Food Forum', would it be a good idea to have a 'Tourist Information' forum?
Following the same format we could post ideas for days out whilst on holiday (or visiting)
Again the same principles apply;
county by county
Type of attraction
Location
Website
OS referance
Prices
Other facilities
'Food Forum'
Is it a worthwhile idea?
muddyweb:
Might well be, but I think it's beyond the scope of the forums as they currently stand
I've been mulling it over a bit, and I think what would be nice is to take the Food Forum out of the forum and into a proper part of the portal, maybe connected with the events pages.
This could be expanded out to include other attractions, places to stay, that sort of thing, and possible allow members to offer reviews of places which have been recommended.
The above system would be properly searchable, and could even allow 'radius' searching based on a grid reference entered by the user.
Now... there are sites which have these sort of listings already, but I think the 'worth' of doing this is valid, as it would only be populated by members who, despite outward appearances, should be trustworthy ;-)
strapping young lad:
do you know what..
i was talking to the wife the other day about things to do on a sunday and where to find out about local attractions online (not an easy thing to do)
and thought about setting up a website..
www.thingstodoonasunday.com or something like that
so local attractions, eateries etc can advertise their businesses on there
split into types of attractions/ regions etc
what do you think about it?
muddyweb:
My thinking was not to make it a commercial venture, but to make a service suitable for members.
Longer term, we can discuss allowing commercial advertising.
For general places to find, most local authorities have reasonable tourist information pages, and the actual tourist information centres will normally have a guide they can send out to you in the post.
