Alex.Y:
why are the new defender engines restricted to 85mph?

can the restriction be overcome easily?

thanks

vtrdaz:
Didn't know they were - the one i drove certainly wasn't - maybe others can shed light if it's true or not?

clbarclay:
One reson for resticting cars speed is that critical items like tyres don't have to be such a high specification, ie. manufacturer can fit tyres with a lower speed rating ie. speed ratings of N and above rather than say R and above.

Rather than change the gear ratio to limit the top speed, fitting a restricter to the engine means you can do 85 economically, rather than having to rev the engine to its maximum.

ScrapyJape:
Where and Why would you want to do that speed or more in a defender?

I bet the Limiter would be on the ECU if there is one.

crazymac:
Definatlely restricted to 85mph

drove one last week, gets there quickly, definately capable of more

But I do agree, why would you want to? I was overtaking a row of cars that wouldn't overtake a tractor and before I realised it I was there
