whats the bit called?

I need a new baring for my 200 tdi.

Its the pully that conects the fan belt to the alternator belt.

What bit do I need?

Are you talking about the serpentine idler pulley which keeps the belt in tension or another pulley, on the crank or the water pump?

Big Rich:
Its not the water pump or the one to the base of the engine.

Its the one that tightens the fan belt.

that'd be the tensioner pulley. I got a funny feeling that you'll have to buy a complete tensioner unit.

But I have seen a web page that describes how you can change just the bearing, just can't remember where. anybody?

If its on a 200 Tdi
The pully in question will be the twin grooved one on the power steering pump.
One belt drives from the crank to the water pump and the power steering and the other smaller belt drives from the power steering to the alternator.
