I have literally just ordered a Southdown for £130 all in

How?
No see that price on there site even with this months special offer the discos only 165  :?
Or have I missed something?

Right guys. After reading this thread i was intrigued at the prices being bandied about. I took Iain C's advice and tried to ring Southdown to confirm the price. Not open Saturday morning. Damn!!!

Twenty minutes later the very nice man from southdown products phones me back after doing a 1471 check. He was passing the office and saw there had been a couple of missed calls.

Suffice to say i am now the owner of a very smart looking Southdown Raised air intake with a satin finish on the pipe. Due to arrive mid to end of next week. All for £130 including delivery. Now that i think is a fantastic price.

Mr Southdown would like me to spread the word for him and i have to say, after the service i have just received i am more than happy to do so.

Well done Southdown 4X4

Nice one Graeme!

I also thought the service was excellent so far...although perhaps I need to be on commission then!

Right then, last one to get their Southdown on buys the beers...actually in fact, you go first, take lots of pictures, tell me how it went and I'll by the beers! :D

I'm 99% certain i'll be getting the southdown one as well, here is the reply I had from them when I asked about the head:

Quote
Dear Gareth

Thank you for your email, Yes we are still doing the deal at £130.00. For a complete air intake.

With regard to the ram scoop, it has no holes to releive rain water as this is a bit of a grey area.
Any rain water that enters the ram scoop will vaporise and burn through the engine with no problems what so ever., but dont forget the top on our air intake is rotatable.  With regard to the Safari set up, if the veocity of the air being sucked into the engine is greater than the velocity of the rain hitting the ram scoop (which in most instances will be the case), the rain will be sucked into the airfilter assembly and atomised as with our system.

In order for it to come out of the slots in the Safari top again it would have to enter with sufficient speed to hit the back of the scoop.  Rarely the case considering the aerodynamics of any intake system.

The only thing that snags now is 'will my light bar fit' as it looks like, on they're web page, the head is right in the way of the light bar :?:

The wiring for the spots, and the breather pipe all run up inside the snorkel and exit at the top.

Is the wiring to the bar fixed or removable? If removable can you post a pic of how you connected it at the top of the snorkel please as this is the route I want to take?

Gavin,
Does it interfere with your light bar / did you have to mod it / or did it go on no problems ?

Hi Gareth

It went straight on no problems at all, hours work. You can't really see from the picture but it tucks in quite neatly under the bar. If it happens to be too long the scoop comes off so you can cut the tube down. I would recomend a couple of discreet self tappers to stop the scoop being pulled off.

OK my Southdown arrived yesterday so I'm going for it today.

Taje care though guys...the template has a "scaling line" which should come out at 250mm, mine is 264mm, so it will need reducing on the PC before I chop anything otherwise the hole will be wrong!

I'll ring Southdwn first just to make sure 100%...

well I have the steel tube and I had the top of the tube stretched so the top fits inside to give a slightly bigger diameter unfortunatly they could not bend it cleanly so I am going to cut and shut the angles .Piccies are piling up but I will put them all on together.

mine turned up yesterday but it says on the instructions you need to chop 15mm off the end  :?
I'll wait for the 'how to fit' pic's before i chop mine

Like the look of the snorkel but it bothers me that you are adding another place for water to get in. (I mean even your masking tape was showing signs of rust)Not that Land Rovers are prone to the dreaded rust though  :D

Another place for water to get in?  Don't get what you mean here...do you mean something to do with the hole in the wing as that's the only difference?
