I did look at putting it on the passenger side but there were too many "accoutrements" in the way. On the drivers side it's an all but clear run to the air box. Only obstacle is the oil filler... but a 45 degree bend sorted that and it actually provides some good stability in the engine bay.

Can't recomend this approach enough... given the cost of commercially available options. Afer all... the parts cost me about £20... some forethought and some building time.

Here a safari one on my 200 Tdi
The wiring for the spots, and the breather pipe all run up inside the snorkel and exit at the top.
