Blakey:
My disco is in for testing tomorrow n the exhaust fumes look a little like its runnin on polystyrene  (BLACK)

Have changed the oil n filter n run some fuel adative through it n reved the balls off it and still black! does any1 have any ideas off why n how to stop it!

smurf:
Use the old classic of removing the air filter.
More free flowing air, lower emissions.

Due to the turbo I would only remove it just before the test & replace it immediately after.

Never failed me yet. (at your own risk though)

And maybe a litre of cooking oil from tesco or liddle, cleaner emissions.

Hey smurf

Ta for the reply!!

Is all ok now it passed

the emissions came out at 0.4 due to 2 bottles of fuel treatment and a dash of vegoil!! Haha!!

smurf:
Nice one, glad all worked out.

Don't tell any one else about this trick though.........

Range Rover Blues:
Also try cleaning (degreasing) the intercooler and pipework as the engine oil breather dumps into the turbo, which mixes with the EGR to form a loverly black sludge.
