I have helped one lady out who broke down on a roundabout once so towed her into a car park. But.........
where does the law stand on this senario.
Roads works on a motorway and someone breaks down in the roadworks. The traffic is backing up second by second. there are free recovery signs. You pass and have a tow rope in the car. Can you stop and tow them into the safety of the coned off area or are you breaking the law for stopping on the motorway and driving into the coned area?
Im sure that everyone behind would be thankful and the person broken down would be in a safer place.

the badge you drive does not reflect what sort of person you are and its just narrow mindedness that lets people down.
I like landrovers iv'e owned 2, a 109" exmod series 3 and a 88" series 3.
I cant fault them its just i have three and a half kids so they are not really practicle and my wife wont let me have a disco as she does not like the idea of sideways facing rear seats with lap belts.
Some people on here get on my nerves when it comes to badge snobbery hence the avitar lol :D :D

Motorway is a different ball game, recovery beacons, hi-viz and you cannot use a rope, it must be a rigid tow (pole, 'a' frame etc)
On a normal road there are less restrictions, BUT whose insurance is affected if it goes pear shape ??

yesterday I saw a 7.5 tonne lorry with 2 banger racing cars on all banged up with a long rope behind it towing a car. It looked like the rope was mounted the the hiab jib or a banger car. It was certainly too high to be around the lorry. rope was about 6ft off the ground.
But what about pushing someone to safety on a motorway in a really slow crawling along behind a snail traafic jam?
