Ok I have a problem with my power steering on my disco 1.

When I turn left the steering seems to be very notchy easy, then hard then easy ( if that makes sense ).

My question

A. Any ideas, what might be causing this, and what is the solution.

B. how do I test that the power steering pump is working properly.

Any thoughts much appreciated.

i had the same prob with mine a few months ago i think it got air in the system when i took it off road hit a few bumps and its been fine since

Seen this on other cars. As needbeer said, its probobly air.

Check your fluid level, if its low it can draw air in. Top it up if needed then check all your hoses for leaks etc. I would imagine there is a bleeding procedure for it someplace.
