Why me (again)

Plumes of smoke from under the bonnet and burning rubber smell.  Scratch one 7 month old power steering pump.

Got to work and back with a temporary fan belt (small bit of rope).

Changed pump, old one now working again after a couple of twists, grrrr, it was stuck initiallly though.

Put all back together - ohhhh - alternator sounds a bit ropey.  Take it off and strip it down.  One bearing rather dry, other rusty and full of water by the look of it, couldn't get it off and damaged the alternator shaft thread in trying to do so.  Also, what div uses a 5.5mm bolt (brushes). Starting to get angry now (gone 11:30 pm), flying hammers and the like.

So, off to parts in the morning for an alternator - mine is too far gone to be repaired now.  At least the battery is good - it's been running for a day now (1/2 hour with lights too), loads of engine starts, I just hope I can get to work today (only 2 more starts needed) before the battery packs up.

And then SWMBO starts up - this landrover is costing you too much money - ARRGGGHHHH.

Moral of the story - don't fix things late at night when you're tired.

Don't you mean just "never tell your wife the full extent of the problems"?

Or even - do you know how much money I've saved by doing it myself?

Just take her down to the nearest Land Rover service department and show her the price of servicing
