Nice surprise
hobbit:
Went to collect a winch cable, and found something I did not expect to see
First thing I saw was the defender, I knew I had the right address, then the surprise
Bush Tucker Man:
That was an Alvis Salamander, if I'm not mistaken.
'Was' being the operative word, before it was 'altered'
hobbit:
Yes it is, not many left running, the guy likes to play with it too, trouble bit awkward with the mpg, used to be used on the Skegness beaches transporting passengers in the back. Been rebuilt back up
Bush Tucker Man:
Totally from memory, is the owners name Barry Stallard?
It was in a magazine called 'International Off-Road' (now discontinued ) quite a few years ago.
It's even been on TV.
It was featured in the Discovery Channel series 'Off The Road' (fronted by Tony Mason) in the episode about 'Heavies'
Interesting beasties, there's a picture of an original Salamander by scrolling down in this list
Still fancy an Antar, or Explorer (not the Ford variety)
hobbit:
Sounds about right richard, His first name was Barry, might see him or his lad around on here some time, passed on the site
The motor sitting next to it is a winterised defender btw
