dang gearbox/clutch thingy
paul and sam:
oh heck i have replaced the clutch master cylinder the slave cylinder and the problem is still there .if anything it is worse than before the problem is when you go to put it into gear it clunks judders then when the thing is in gear its ok.now after it had the cylinders replaced it grinds and klonks into gear then judders while holding the brake. does anyone have any thoughts on what the problem is do i need to look at a new clutch and if so how much will this cost me ? or is it a problem with what i have done? by the way its on a m plate 300TDI many thanks.
Dr Neil:
I haven'y seen the origional post but it sounds to be like it is the clutch fork worn through, which means taking the gearbox out  Whilst it is out i would replace the clutch also.
just my thoughts
Neil....
Les Henson:
Normally your pedal goes rock solid if the fork punches through the pivot point inside the bell housing. If the master and slave have been fitted and bled properly, then it woul seem it's your clutch that needs looking at. Juddering is usually either oil contaminated plate or a clutch cover imbalance. Just to get you all excited - this is what it takes to replace the clutch and fork in a 300TDi Disco:-

paul and sam:
how long does anyone think it would take to change the clutch? i have been quoted £350.00 to do the job what do you think is this about the right price? or with a little help from some one could we do this ourselves? many thanks for the advice
lyndon:
On a 200 TDI the book says its a 6 hour job. I was quoted £275 plus vat plus parts from a mate who has a garage. So if the £350 includes parts its not far off the mark I'd say.
