Patrols, Land Cruisers etc etc etc
All of which would have done it with less effort and more than likely used less fuel.
Bulli:
Shogun is 3.3 tonnes..... and i have had a series and love LR's but my old Shogun would do the journey on half the fuel with twice the comfort.
muddyjames:
I didnt think that series landies were rated to 3.5 tonnes. I wouldnt like to tow 3.5tonnes behind a series landy due to the ability in stopping with drum breaks!
That trailer looks pretty wide to me as well. Most probably the angle of the camera though.
If the series engine is in tip top condition then they do tow well. My dad towed a 1200kg 16ft caravan to the south of France and back twice with a series 3 swb diesel and it performed well although he was slightly deffer after each trip
madmatt:
James I am 99% sure you are right that a series motor is plated to the same gross train weight as the defender. Trouble is I can't remember what the gross train for a series is.
If I remember rightly the maximum trailer dimensions towed by a vehicle with a gross weight of less than 3500kg is 23' long and 7'6'' wide.
Its certainly an achievement anyway.
Sooty:
Doing my best to clear things up the regulations are as follows.
On British roads a trailer without its own braking system cannot exceed 750Kg.
The towing capacity of most modern vehicles under 3500Kg can be found HERE click on Kerbweights
The maximum size of trailer towable on the British roads by a vehicle under 3500Kg in weight is 2.3 Metres wide and 7 Metres long not including A frame, see HERE click on Towing guide and then click on The Code.
This information is to the best of my knowledge but if I reiterate something told to me by a third party and it turns out to be wrong please feel free to correct me.
