POP POP lack of power

Hay guys i have a 1990 v8 Carb disco with a problem.  :(  

When At 60/70mph going up hill i get a pop sound and lack of power at the same time. This comes from middle/left side of engine. but i cant get  look for any thing as it only happens only when at speed going up hill. A mechanic friend reckons it "could be backfireing through the left carb due to an air leak may be from the gasket under the carb". But he dont no much about carbs and says that is what it sounds like to him at guess.  

Can any one help? PLEASE

Ah, that was it.  Had a similar thing on my 101 when the exhaust was leaking.  Worth checking the exhaust manifold & downpipes from the left hand side?

i will give it a check cheers. when u had the problem was t worse on LPG than it was on petrol. Nice 101

Range Rover Blues:
Worse on LPG? backfire/missfire then.  LPG is so much harder to ignite.  Have you closed your plugs up to 27 thou yet?

Cheers Range Rover Blues but i dont have a clue only got it about 2 weeks ago. i did 94 miles back from where i got it with out a prob then fien for a week on road.. then went offroad it was got back on the road and it started ?  what spark plugs do u recomend?
