Nuts! Fitting bigger wheels!
Iain C:
I've picked up five 265 MTs to put on my Disco...at the moment they are on grey modulars. Ultimately I'll probably get them swapped over to my Freestyle alloys, but to test them I'll leave them on the modulars, I just want to see what they are like to live with on road, and if I am going to need to chop away any bits at all.
Can anyone sell me 10 x standard steel wheel nuts please?
In addition, I've checked the sticky and it mentions that rear fender trimming might be needed, has anyone got any examples of this? My truck is in nice condition body wise and I am loathed to chop it about unless I know exactly what I'm doing!
At the front, I was going to remove the airdam and chop the endcaps off at the line, will this do it? And why does it need different bumpstops? To prevent axle articulation and the wheel fouling the arch? If I just decide not to chop anything and get a cheapo Britpart 2" lift kit will this do the job instead?
Thanks!

I don't think you'll be able to use the wheels on the modulars as a benchmark as the offset will be larger on the modulars - you may end up trimming more than you need to. The benefit of the modulars will be a tighter turning circle due to the larger offset. The standard wheels will need to have the steering lock reduced (a bolt on each swivel) with larger tyres but may need less trimming. What is the aspect ratio of the tyres?
If you get a lift kit you'll still need extended bump stops with larger tyres as on full articulation the spring will still compress until the axle hits the bump stop. There are plenty of threads on here about the implications of a 2" lift (Castor angle, Stressing the trailing arm bushes, Roll Bars, Binding front propshafts, extended shock absorbers, extended brake lines, dislocation cones and so on!)
Budgie:
Some photos of the body trimming required can be found HERE.
If you fit the 265's and don't trim anything then you'll likely bend both rear wings the first time you go off road with it as the tyres will catch and they just pull the trailing edge of the wheelarch inwards.
New standard wheel nuts are 45p each (+vat) from Paddocks or you can get domed ones for 81p each.
Extended bump stops from the same place come in at £7.48 +vat each and come complete with new bolts a washers.

how did you go folding the inner lip on the arch mine needs cuting a little more but i think i'll over come this if i folded it instead thanks shaun
Bulli:
the offset on modulars varies greatly. from none to up to 4 inch. place a flat edge across the face of the whel and measure down to the flat mounting surface...that will tell you if they are similar offset. If they are diff it wont tell ya a thing...so swap em.
