advise on changing the gearbox oil please (auto)

<< < (2/2)

Spud:
Measure what you drain out as not all the ATF comes out.

You may be lucky to get only 2.5 litres out of the gearbox......

All the best

GORDY 1:
Most models with drain plugs do not have a filter

markyd:
There is a filter inside the auto box( metal mesh type). unless its giving you serious grief leave alone. replace with dextron 2 fluid. you will notice the difference on gear changes and how smooth it is.

When refilling with new fluid start her up and keep stationary select gears right the through the range a few times, this will ensure the box is filling up acurately when you check on the dip stick.

Mutz:
As Markyd said metal filter inside pan, bit of a job to get to but i had mine cleaned when i first got it as you just dont know what "crud" could be blocking it. Just for peace of mind really.

This is very good advice we did my auto box oil change & put 4.0 litres in before running it for a while & going through box whilst stationary & checking it - we kept having to take some out. The torque converter doesn't drain so check it regularly as you put it in - it will save a lot of time & ATF up your sleeve
