what kind of fan?

can any one tell me what kind of fan is fitted to the td5 disco?
and is it ment to spin all the time?

I'm only going on what my old mans series 2 was like, it had a viscous fan behind the rad and an electric on the front for the aircon/climate control.

Oh and the viscous fan is supposed to rotate with the engine to a greater or lesser degree, depending on how hot the coolant is.

pop the bonnet and have a look?? Is it causing you problems or are you just curious?

It's a viscous fan;  it should spin when the engine is running and speed up as it gets faster, but you should easily be able to spin it by hand when the engine is stopped.  If you can't turn it manually then the viscous coupling has failed and you need to get it repaired;  you may also notice a whooshing noise as you rev the engine which can sometimes tip you off.
