Pump tweak

<< < (2/4) > >>

bilge rat:
black smoke = unburnt fuell = higher e.g.t, personaly iff your at a loss with it  i would mark the smoke screw the  torx under the little cap on top of the derv pump, mark the diaphram underneath and under the diaphram is a nerled star type adjuster. when you have marked them all turn them back 45 deg and try that. all want to go anti clockwise. obviously you do this at your own responsibility but iff it was mine thats whatr i would do. have adjusted both mine and a freinds. no probs had but you do have to be carefull but the main prob is e.g.t which can rise higher when you get as you have got un burnt fuell. also as said check the a/f .easy one that and go from there, check pump timing also. timing pins, think its 3/16 drill and think its 9mm for the d/pump. you can do this without striping the front cover off, .hope this may help. cheers alan.....

Budgie:
The trouble is Alan, how do you know that the star wheel & smoke screw were altered as part of the intercooler upgrade?
It may have only been the diaphram that was altered, as per the instructions that I got with the Allards Intercooler I fitted to mine, and the smoke screw & star wheel could still be in the standard setup positions.

I'd do it one at a time in small increments, starting with the diaphram, and take it for a drive after each alteration to see what it's like.

Range Rover Blues:
Is there any way of putting it back to standard and starting again? I know Julie's TDi has been tweaked and it goes like a stabbed rat, but it smokes.  I've ordered a new big intercooler for it (taking it's time arriving) and I may just fit that and leave well alone :?

I know Diesels are simple but not my familiar territory at all.

piggysteve:
Putting the thing back to standard is the hard part when it was altered by someone else cos you have no idea what was altered and by how much.

The article here is for a 200TDi, is it the same for a 300TDi?
