Upper Steering Bearing

How the Heck do you get these out?????? LOL. I need to change mine as it has play in it. I have tried to lever it out but all it does is break bits off it. Ive heard you can just knock the old one down more and then hit the new one over it. Is this true? HELP! its winding me up now lol.
