Disco '96 300TDi gearbox problems
Budgie:
If it was the clutch fork then surly you wouldn't be able to drive it now?
I thought that once it's gone, it's gone. It wont come back and then go again.
Give it an oil change, see what the old stuff is like and see how it runs with the new oil in there before you go thinking about pulling the gearbox out.
If, when you drain the box, you find it's been running on EP90 instead of ATF/MTF then that could have damaged the internal oil pump as the EP90 is too thick for it.
Another thing to check is that the gearbox breather is clear. It could have been a build up of pressure in the box that's caused it because of the long run.
FlagonSlayer:
Thanks Budgie - I've got my suspicions about the oil they put in at the last 'major' service some time ago - box started getting a bit stiff from time to time soon after but I put it down to new oil and cold time of year (seemed to loosen up a bit after a run). The garage I use isn't a specialist LR place - just a 2-man outfit but I've known 'em for many years and they're a good honest bunch.
