Disco vibrator... Diff???

Howdo,

Here's a puzzle for ya!

Steering has become a bit grabby i.e. When turning there's like a touch of stiffness.
There's a new vibration that's really bad. But it only happens when power is on so not when coasting or slowing down. It isn't through the steering it's the whole car that shakes!
Also there's a high pitch clank kinda noise from the front axle when taking up drive. It sounds like it's coming from the diff but i could be wrong.

I'm reckoning on the pinion bearings.

Any ideas?

Mine has the vibration as you describe but less severe, last time it was a prop u/j.  I have lots of play in my front diff tho' and a new noise that i think is the transfer box so we will see.........

It doesn't seem to do it when it's cold only after the first mile or so. It's the stiff steering that makes me think it's the diff.

I'll try greasing the uj's and see if it makes a difference.

Same problem I had, found and changed a very badly worn UJ at the weekend. Drives like a dream now.

i had the same thing and it was the uj on the front prop mate
