Main things are rust on the rear of the chassis particularly the back x member and backlash in the transmission.  If it is getting old check the bulkhead and footwells for rot.  Doors will most likely be starting to rot not a lot that can be done about that.  Then it is just usual checks for the engine, suspension, steering etc etc.......

Like Jim said, be careful on what you are buying, a lot have been very abused.

Buy the best chassis and bulkhead you can afford and dont worry about taking a hammer and giving them both a firm tap to check that they are soild if the owner objects he is either hiding something or your at a LR dealership!

Mileage isn't an issue on a well maintained LR so dont be put of by a well service high miler.

Modding the Landy yourself will also mean you only buy the essentials and that you dont waste money.
