Had a 3 phone a couple of years back on Pay as you Go. They had one of these "top up within so many days or lose your credit/get cut off" things in the agreement. The day before the deadline for me to do it, I tried about 10 times to top up, but it wouldn't let me, so I chucked the phone and won't consider 'em again.

I had an 18month contract with 3. After it ran out I shopped around and got a decent offer from both Carphone Warehouse and Vodafone... Voadafone shop told me to ring 3 service dept and get the wotsits number ( sorry forgot the techy name for it ) to be able to keep my phone number the same.
The guy at 3 asked why I was planning to leave, I told him I had a better offer and he matched it there and then ... new phone, equivalent contract to flext35 and a discount too. I would have been daft to change.
The downside is that I have had probs with the phone ( Sony Ericson 800i )
The only way I could get it fixed was to take it to Carphone Warehouse for re-programming, they have a deal to fix 3 phones under warranty. I still believe that I should have a replacement though... but the actual deal from 3 was the best I could find at the time.

I agree that the asian call centre is a pain, although they did sort me out in the end.

What credit crunch ? I started with nothing and still have most of it left !

the only place you will get any one english with 3 is when you speak to tech services and thats liverpool.

i had contract with them for a year and well went through two LG phones and crap service.. they kept treating me like i was dumb and didnt understand computers!

Rich has had many many more problems with them tho.

Orange are generally pretty good but they have their duff moments.  I was with Vodafone for a couple of years and they were totally dismal.  Orange seem to be the best of the bunch.  But then, when they realised I was spending about 7 grand a year with them, they decided to give me priority service.

Many years back they sent me a bill for £0.00, so I wrote them out a cheque for £0.00 and posted it back to them.  And they cut me off

just for balance.... i'm currently arguing with o2 as after spending a couple of years them i recently upgraded to a nokia n73- what a mistake. in the space of 6 weeks the first phone broke and now its replacement is broken too. When the first one broke o2 sent a courier out with a replacement, all well and good just a bit inconvieniant. The second time however they refused to send a courier as i was more than 30 days into the new contract ( the opt out period!) and told me i would have to trust good old royal mail to send it back. they would then examine it and send a replacement via royal mail- a process that could take up to two weeks. I offered to take the phone to them but apparently this is against their policy and the phone has to be posted back! All through this their attitude stank and as soon as i can get out of this contract i will and i will never touch o2 again
