Number plate

(1/3) > >>

shaun and co:
does anyone out there know what the rules are on positioning front number plates?
the reason is that i don't want it on the front bumper as it gets in the way so i was thinking about the middle of the roof rack- any opinions?

Buddha:
My belief is that the requirement is for it to be vertical and visible from the front. That's as far as construction & use is concerned. Obviously fonts etc have to be legal.

I think that MOT regs are such that an adhesive plate on the leading edge of the bonnet won't get you failed, but the local constabulary might take a dim view.

Not 100% on this tho' as I'm no MOT tester, or traffic cop.

Be easier to see if you put it on the front of the rack

My last Disco had it mounted up there and I never had any problems with the boys in blue or the MOT, Plenty of other people do it too.

thepsychoman:
The OPSI site says that the plate must be mounted "on the front" of the vehicle, vertical or as vertical as possible and clearly visible (then some waffle about areas and angles). They need to be on a reflective surface conforming to regs, so stickies are a no-no. Also have a look at www.ukmot.com (always weird that the MOT and the law are very different animals?!? ),
