ABS How much!

(1/5) > >>

lampyrover31:
Ola,
A friend has just brought a m plate disco and phoned to say that the ABS modulator has gone.He said it means something keeps going under the bonnet when switched off.Dont have these worries on series!
He's  been told 600 quid to replace it or 500 quid to bypass it.Does that sound right or any cheaper options.
Thanks in advance.

AbyssDJ:
600 quid to replace it? possible if a garage does the work... 500 quid to bypass? load of toss. if it costs 600 to replace theres no way it costs 500 to bypass it!

saying that i have NO IDEA if those figures are even realistic, but in all fairness i doubt it!

either way - where abouts in swad are you from? i've probably flashed our lights at you :P

lampyrover31:
Ola,
That's why he phoned as he wasn't sure.I thought it was a bit strange but knew somebody on here will know!I've given him a couple of numbers locally who are landrover specialists (non landrover garage on the edge of London gave him quote!)as he's up this way soon.
I'm near Pingles school, but you  won't have seen me in Landy as it "work in progress".Should be up for 1st attempt at mot soon though!
Whers you?

AbyssDJ:
yeah sounds like a load of bull to me! i mean, a garage will always charge more, but the £500 to bypass part sounds particularly money making... whats it gonna cost them? a couple of hours (if that) and a bit of wire maybe? dunno... i dont know how it works!

what is it you've got/will have? from the first post i gather its a series? :) we're in overseal, down the a444!

lampyrover31:
I did suggest he got a haynes manual and found one from a breaker or off here but hes not that technically minded

AAh I drive through there every day.
I got a series 3 SWB with a Perkins Diesel.Just rewired the internal electrics, just got the rear tail lights to make glow. Then all of those other little jobs like an exhaust bracket, windscreen washers-Grrr they are my personal favorite  .Then tidy up the body work.Fixed the handbrake by hitting it with a rubber mallet.
Then its a trip to the MOT station to find out what ive missed.Oh and it needs new tyres.
Are you Discovery or Defender/Series
