TD5 engine flat spot

--- Quote from: "Jimbo" ---No, don't chip it yet - there's something wrong with it. Mine's done 84k and still pulls well from 70........(and it's in standard tune at the mo)

Maybe EGR valve is playing silly beggars ?

Do you get lots of smoke when giving it the boot ?

Does it pull ok at lower speeds ?

Maybe the intercooler hoses are collapsing down on themselves ? (think this would show up at lower speeds as well)

Whats the mileage on your truck ?

Exactly... don't get it remapped (yet   ) - there is no point remapping a td5 with faults.
Hence why I don't like plug in boxes or remaps done by post
(people fit them without checking everything is working correctly first!! i.e a diagnostic check amoung other things).... but that is neither here or there....

Interested to see your answers to Jimbo's questions above? And a bit more info on your Land Rover

Where abouts are you?? (fill your profile in   ) could have a look for you if needed.

Prime suspects could be...

Dodgy Air Flow meter (I can supply these cheaper than most)

Faulty EGR (but this will show up at other times)

And a few other things...

A standard Td5 should easily pull all the way to 90 mph at least

jimbo,
the milage is about 86 k, there is very very little smoke when booting it and it pulls fine in lower gears. it is a 110

not sure where to get it sorted or looked at, there are very little places near here that i could take it,

options are either up thier own arse arrogant and extremely overpriced dealers or just plain unreliable "land rover specialists"

there is only one guy i could take it too but it would help if i could find out myself what the problem is.

wouldnt think about chipping it yet, what do you reckon on fitting a larger bore exhaust and whacking in a decent air filter? would that be worth doing?

would taking it in and rigging it up to the diagnostics computer find anything out?

I am based in wiltshire

Alex,

See my post above....

But again there is no point fitting a different exhaust (no real need anyway - just use the correct combination of LR bits   ) or air filters before you get your 110 working as it should be as standard!!

I'm about an hour (at the most) from Bridgnorth - so could easily pop over when your next at your mates, or I could even drive down to Wiltshire if needed...

Sure we could sort out your Td5 without a problem...  Will drop you a private message with my phone number.

One other thing...

Welcome to the Forum!!  :D

Regards

Ian
