Katenrob,

Sounds like your timing belt is a tooth out. It is possilble for a 200Tdi to run like that but it will be very flat........feels like a split turbo hose but obviously doesn't sound like it ;)

katenrob:
Thats the word "FLAT". Hopfully  i will be doing it this weekend so with a bit of luck it will sort it out
Thanks once again

if the belt is over tentioned it will be flat aswel
make sure you get it right....
tip.....
dont refit everything then start up, change belt, check check and double check, then fit the timing cover on, put a couple of bolts in (litrally), slip the crank damper back on and just tweak the bolt up

then give it a brief run, start it with NO glowplugs, it should fire up instantly like the 200's do, have a friend check for smoke output and give it a gut full !!

that my way of checking its all ok, the switch off and refit everything properly.....saves building it back up to find out somethings slipped 1 tooth

btw if you havent done it before, the bottom crank bolt is megger f**k off tight
i usualy use a breaker bar and wedge it against the underside of the driverside chassis leg and then just give it a quick blip on the key, the starter motor have just enough torque init to crack the bolt loose....o btw disconect the fuel stop 1st
