200Tdi timing belt question!

(1/2) > >>

katenrob:
Going to be doing my timing very soon but i'm a bit confused about the cambelt kits. Does a K-reg 200tdi Discovery have a tensioner and Idler or just a tensioner.

Thanks Rob

Leslie Henson:
200TDi has an idler :-

Les.

Dr Neil:
though as you can see from the picture it has a seperate tensioner also.Paddocks sella kit which i believe includes the belt.tensioner, idler waterpump gasket and timing cover gasket. The only other bit i would be tempted to get is a new crankshaft seal for the inner and outer cover as the last thing you want is to find you need them and not have the patrts. The seals are only a matter of a couple of quid.

extreme90:
why not change the water pump why it's all apart,
btw, i never remove the waterpump whilst replacing the belt, you dont need to
its only defenders that dont have the idler btw afink

katenrob:
Many thanks for the replies. I will be changing everything that you have mentioned apart from the water pump which is new. The only reason i'm changing the timing belt is that i had it done about 18 mounths ago and its never been right since. Over 2500rpm it feals like your towing a 5 ton trailer behind you as it does not like been reved past that so i'm going to do it my self so i know its right.
Thanks once again everyone
