Standard is 12psi and mine runs at 18psi without a problem.

Manual says to set it up at .78BAR.  When I was setting mine up it started off way too low and then I over compensated it and was running at 1.2 bar.  Spun the wheels changing into second!  Not sure that I would want to run it at 1.2 for long though.

a 200tdi will run 1 bar all day long on a std intercooler without popping any headgaskets,

if you've got a full width cooler you can run abit higher without problems

but i run 1 bar with mine, with full width cooler, 5k so far no probs

do run abit higher when offroading when ino im goin need abit more oomphh but drop it back down for road work

My 300 (don't know for sure if the 200 is the same) has the boost gauge running straight out of the waste-gate outlet at the main turbo outlet.  This is due to me moving the waste-gate pipe to the unused hole at the rear of the plenum chamber so that the gate opens when there is 1.2 bar at the valves, not just the turbo outlet.  Made quite a difference to mine........
Son, life has a habit of kicking you in the ass and i only have vague recollections of when it wasn't kickin mine!

my boost guage is plumbed in at the inlet manifold not at the turbo, so im getting a true pressure at the inlet side

So.... if the actuator and the fueling are controlled off the pressure in the inlet manifold itself... wouldn't it be better to run the gauge from the same place??  Just a thought...

As mentioned.... 1 bar, or even 1.1bar is fine on a healty 200tdi...

ang on, just thought
mines a disco 200 yours a defender 200 ?
my guage came with a 1/8th bsp fitting to plumb into the inlet or where ever you want it,
all you need to do, is get a 1/8th tap, and drill and tap the inlet manifold where the inlet pipe joins, i put some metal set around it after just to make sure it was watertight

i bought mine from ebay, can let you know if its up to the job
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=017&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWN%3AIT&viewitem=&item=270098447347&rd=1&rd=1

I see where your coming from on the tap.

Might plum into a line take a reading and adjust to that reading,

Drilling & tapping would mine buying a tap set as mine since vanished.
Will see what comes int eh kit

I will only go up a couple of PSI in any case and I have a hole that needs a gauge in the dash .
