St Georges Day.

<< < (2/4) > >>

Range Rover Blues:
Won't they just steal another bank holiday to cover it?

About time we took some pride in being English, look how many loons celebrate st patrick's day just so they can swill guiness

Lord Shagg-Pyle:
Voted Yes, if for no other reason than to get the St George's flag back from the hands of the Far Right/BNP and hooligan element.

Lee_D:

--- Quote from: "datalas" ---The question which hasn't been asked is how many people are voting "yes" because they want a day off and not because of some form of national pride?

I dare say if you declared national talk like a pirate day to be a bank holiday you'd get just as many votes :?
--- End quote ---

Arrrgh! That be right me hearty  :D

07DefenderSeb:
I think the European average number of national holidays is 11. We have 8. Even the Aussies have Big Liz Windsor's birthday as a national holiday

In Europe we work more hours per week than any other nation. So the argument that we will lose working hours compared to our neighbours is only relative.

I/We deserve the rest, or we'll flake out  :D

Thrasher:
I have already posted about this on another site.....here's the gist :

<cough>

St. George ..... you might want to look into his nationality

90% of "english" people know when St. Davids day is, St. Patricks too...but they have to look up St. Georges. The day it's taken seriously is the day I'll let my employees have a free day.

"St George was born in the 3rd Century, in what is now Turkey and he roamed around the Middle East. It seems he never set foot in England. It was in the year 1415 AD that St. George became the Patron Saint of England when English Soldiers under Henry V won the battle of Agincourt against the French. The day is not widely celebrated in England. Only 18% of the English people know the date of St George's day, according to a survey. He is also the patron saint of Moscow."

Find a date in the summer :-) That would get my vote lol
