the galvanizers we use in work will accept rusty material, but will charge you an arm and a leg to shotblast it before they acid bathe it......so if you know a firm or local guy it might be worth getting it shot blasted before you send it up for galving......and the bit about the drain holes is right too lol

i've got water jet spray that can shoot all rusts until bare metal.
