Disco TD5.....Wading
Jimbo:
One of the mags did an article on challenge trucks a few months back - one of the 90's was a Td5, and I'm sure the guy had left the ECU under the drivers seat, but had somehow fitted it into one of those plastic boxes you can use for outdoor electrics. It's something I've been looking into for the 110, I have a box (about a tenner from Maplin) but haven't got around to seeing if it fits - think you need to vent the box, not sure if thats to get rid of excess heat ?
Mike - how many beer tokens for the extended loom pls ?

--- Quote from: "Tyke" ---TD5 . . . ECU . . . . Elektrickery that don't like water . . . . . .
I still think LR made a major error of judgement about what their customers want from their trucks with all the electronics they strapped on them.
Was never any need for it really . . . . . except to keep up with technology . . . . :(

Well actually yes there was. Firstly the engines have all gone electronic to keep up with emissions targets in the EU. Until very recently they still made 10s of thousands of 300tdis for export. Secondly, remember the vast majority of Land Rover vehicles sold never go off-road. The owners want a comfortable car with climate control that works, heated seats, etc. Those of us who want a rugged workhorse are in the minority. Land Rover know their target market very well indeed.

Just thought I would shove my 2 pence worth in as yeh is was me that ended up with a couple of inches of water in the air box because of the hole in the bottom :(. Board wax for surf boards is a good blocking gloop and also can be removed easily.
As for generally wading - ecu etc be careful of a good check round after wading. the one I forgot about is there are vents in the rear that if you are reversing in water above the rear bumper hieght the rear foot wells start to fill up. Apart from that not had or heard any other tales.....
Oh if you do have a Safari snork fitted remember to remove it if you ever have to replace the windscreen :( one lerns from mistakes apparentlu.....
