Not wishing to state the obvious here but has the little blue/black wire on the back of the alternator come adrift/been frazzled  :?:  :?:,its the one that powers the field coils I think  :?:  :?: and creates the red light

ill have a look when i replace the belt tomorrow :)

Had similar fault a while ago, was a weak brush spring in the alternator, a bit fiddly but cheap and easy repair, worth looking at,

the alternator aint spinning...

Its siezed... new one on its way though :)
