Rear lights and brake lights

(1/3) > >>

gords:
I've seen a discussion about this somewhere, but I can't find it - so I'll start it again

My Discovery 300 1994 has lights in the bumper and brake lights in the body cluster. The bumper lights are not what I'd call "significant"!

I've seen others with lights in the body cluster as well as the bumper - is this a mod I can (easily) make?

Is it possible to have lights and brake lights in the bumper and the body cluster?

Bush Tucker Man:
YES!

The body cluster part numbers are;
AMR 5150
AMR 5151
They include all 'services'; Brake, Tail, Indicator, Fog, Reverse. Priced at about £28.00 each
That's unless you can find a Maestro van in a scrapyard & get the units off it (though I assume most scrappers will have been picked clean - or te owners know what the score is)

If you tow, you'll need a new indicator relay; AMR 4873 at a bout £23.00

The light units simply exchange by unscrewing the plastic nuts & swapping the multi-plugs.
Hopefully (but not definately) the extra feeds forthe indicators & tail-lights should be there at the multi-plug, if not you need to run spurs from the feed to the bumper lights

If it's a 7-seater remove the top mounts (Torx 30, or35) to make it a damn site easier

I think 'Andy' (Shiney Blue Crew #1) has done the bumper brake lights, so he might help you there

So, what are these parts actually for?

Ah, who cares! Ordered today, arriving Saturday morning, fitting Saturday afternoon :D

The Land Rover parts guy knew what I was on about immediately!

Hi Gordon.

Although I have a 200 series I have fitted a 300 series rear bumper to mine. I have also converted the normal tail lights to stop(brake)/tail lights.

The parts are actually taken from the Freelander. Part No you'll need are  part no XBP100190 which are the new dual bulb holders and part no. STC 4637 which is the wiring loom section you'll need to wire up the ne bulbs.

The bulb holders are easy to change as they are a direct replacement for the ones you have in now. Next step is to cut off the old wiring connections at a suitable point, these should just have two wires to them a red and black. The new looms will have three, red, black and the new green wire. Re connect the red and black wires up again to the existing loom. The green wire then has to be taken up to the rear light cluster in the body and connected to the green/purple brake wire feed from there.

Very easy mod todo and gives you those extra two brake lights.
