Just sold an item via ebay, and the guy wants me to ship it to his mate working in Nigeria (West Africa). I know a lot of people state no shipping to Nigeria, but was wondering why that was? The guy has a registered address in the UK, so I’ve offered to send it there only when the payment has cleared.

Does this sound like a scam?

Yes, almost certainly.  How is he paying?  If it's any way other than cash, then forget it.

Has he made any references to a shipping agent or bankers draft?

If so, blow him out, he's a scammer.

The address isn't in North London/Essex border is it?
They use an address there alot, Barking I think.
