What I saw on the way in to work this morning...

I predict that driver is gonna be looking for a new job soon (plus a fair amount of points). Plus the company will get a juicy repair bill, plus increased insurance premiums.
How it happened? My guess is that he tipped the load, and drove off without securing the hydraulics. Down the road a bit, an elbow comes in contact with the lever..... The rest is easy enough to figure.
What amazes me is that he tore the body off the chassis, yet the gantry seems remarkably intact. A few years back in Spain something similar happened, the lorry was pretty much unscathed, but the gantry ended up horizontal on top of a car, killing a young lass.

In the film 'Maximum Overdrive' a tipper lorry does something similar to a petrol station canopy.

I did that once when harvesting, I couldn't work out what the blue flashes were but having taken down 8 power lines I worked it out :oops: :oops:
