Replacing the Dipstick tube

DOes the oil need to be drained? or do you lose only half of the oil?? Cheers

Range Rover Blues:
Shouldn't loose any, the dipstick goes in through the block casting and the oil should be above the bottom of it.

Guardian.:
as above, no oil loss when pulling the tube out.
