Knocking noise

<< < (2/3) > >>

mgilbert:
Have you got a transfer skid plate fitted? If so (and like mine), the transfer case could be just slapping against the plate. A couple of extra washers between the cross-member and plate should do it. This will create some gap between the plate and transfer case.

If you don't have a skid plate, it'll be the transfer case mount.

Being a 93, if it doesn't have a transfer skid then some git's nicked it!!!

AngerManagement:
Had 4x4 specialists check it out............unfortunately noise had stopped as i'd not driven it 4 a while and as stated b4 the blasted thing does'nt do it unless i drive it for a long time.  He said he could'nt see any fault with the transfer box bushes/mounts at all, and perhaps i should bring it back when noise has returned (very annouying) :?
As 4a skidplate on transfer box...........can't say i saw 1 there, so i'll have 2 check that 1 out?, but as i said b4, it only does it on heavy break'n after driving it 4 a couple of day, though it does'nt sound like that type of knocking noise (if you know what i mean), it knocks in rotation, i've changed front disc's & pads so its not them!

isle of man:
are you sure the noise is not the rear axle? the plates could be fubar...............

Not wishing to sound silly, but it's not the ABS cutting in is it? only say it as the system is crap and even a wet manhole cover sets mine off.
