Judging by this, not to well.

V8 EOL:
Before I start, let me explain I am not a troll. I am a regular member of pistonheads and my profile can be found
http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/profile.asp?h=0&memberId=53935&f=69&t=357731.

I drive a 5.7L V8 Monaro, not a mud-club car I grant you, but fuelled with Petrol and 22mpg average. I am not, I repeat NOT a ecolentalist.

A colleague and I started a new business in November selling systems to local councils to help them manage traffic and congestion more effectively. In addition we offer services to the travelling public alerting you when car parks are full, accidents, pollution, bridge openings etc. All useful stuff to help reduce congestion.

One of our recent developments for a local authority customer was the carbon calculator. We also put our own branded version on the www.carboncalculator.info site. It has only been up and running 2 weeks now and I noticed this site had linked to it... so here I am! :D

I thought I would take the time to constructively respond to some earlier points. My comments are not meant to be inflammatory, just my opinion.

--- Quote from: "v8kenny" ---takes no account whatsoever of the fact that my V8 110 is 21 years old and therefore I have saved a huge amount of emissions by not changing the car for a new one every three years as a lot of people do I could leave it running 24/7 and it still wouldnt catch up  - except I couldn't afford the petrol to do this !

I couldnt agree more. We intend for the site to have a "complete carbon cost" soon that will take in to account the life time cost of owning a vehicle.

--- Quote from: "Devon-Rover" ---They don't have an option for the Series IIA land Rover. So i guess i'm carbon nuetral then

--- Quote from: "sleeplessparadise" ---They dont have the option for a defender 90 hard top either  :(

All the data comes from http://www.vcacarfueldata.org.uk and only has cars from 2002 onwards.

--- Quote from: "V8MoneyPit" ---I like the 'if you took public transport......' bit. Particularly the 'up to.....' part.
I assume that means it is likely to increase your carbon footprint in most circumstances because the bus or train only has three passengers on it   And of course, there is the 7 mile taxi journey (each way, so 28 miles assuming I want to go home again!) to get me to the nearest railway station or bus route
--- End quote ---
It is true at the moment there is no accurate figure for the carbon emissions from public transport. We use a calculation of 1.2 tonnes of CO2 per 12,000 miles for public transport. This was using the governments published figures. Again, I am interested in finding out the TRUE cost of public transport and updating the site. I suspect, like you, it is somewhat more than the DFT would lead us all to believe.

--- Quote from: "Dave" ---How is it that if i take my 4x4 it is 5.41kg and the bus is 5.01kg

But if i take the car its 2.32kg and the bus is now 1.92kg How does the bus change  :?  :?  :?

So if i walked the bus would not run.

I dont get it
--- End quote ---
The public transport option is the reduction, not the emission. I will make the text clearer.

--- Quote from: "rollazuki" ---It recons if I run a 1.3 petrol Jimny on Biodiesel I will save on emissions.
--- End quote ---
At the moment it isn't as sophisticated as that. Again, it is in the road map.

I don't want to start a flame war, but if any one wants to engage in a constructive way, feel free to retort! :)

V8MoneyPit:
Nice to hear from you. Genuinely. And you are most welcome.

Your constructive response is appreciated. I, for one, don't see anything in your reply that should start a flame war. And it's good to hear you are trying your best to improve the site to make it more 'real life', for want of a better phrase.

Good luck. I suspect you'll need it to obtain some of the accurate figures you need
