NA is low output, (after all, it's just a longer stroke 2.25 Litre Diesel found in a Series!)
TD has a reputation of going suicidal sometimes,
TDi is exceptionally good and will do 200k fine. It's the TD that usually blows around 130k if it's going to go bang.
The TDi is also the highest performing engine all round that is completely mechanical. The Td5 uses some electronics, although not an awful lot.

HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA perhaps not... ours is on over 175k!
if you can afford it, get a 200tdi. cheaper than a 300 and just as reliable and easy to work on if not more so. they will also shift at an alarming rate (well, in the scheme of things) with a bit of subtle and easy to do tweaking.
the N/A engines are pretty good if they're looked after and they'll last a long time... they're just as slow as hell freezing over. it will keep you going if worst comes to worst, but you will wanna swap it to a tdi eventually!

That was the TD i was refering to Mark. The Tdi is a wonderful thing. I have ine in my Disco, and i wouldnt change it for the world. Powerful, easy to tweak and reliable. Aswell as 30 to the gallon all day long.
The n/a is a super engine. I have one in my 110, and i dont think other than changing the injectors when i got it i have had to touch it. Do the Tappets every 10,000mls and keep it well serviced. I know Tdi's are better, but i bet my n/a will still be going strong long after the alluminium on the Tdi has rotted away.
As for the speed. You get used to it. I find in the 110 i cruise at 50 all day long, and in the Disco your up to 60-70, then back down, so over an average thereisnt much in it. All your really doing is wearing your tyres, brakes, clutch, drivetrain out faster. :)

Must admit mate I used to run a 2.5 N/A in my 90 it lasted in there fro about 6 months 45mph with tyres on the roof rack comming back from drumclog in the rain with Wagons overtating you on the M6 is no fun at all.....
So I have fit a 200TDI in now from a disco ( Landyloonys Old one ).
Its brill. I also done the 3 tweaks to the pump and it goes like stink.
I also have a 300tdi in the 110CSW and thats just a bit quieter but only a little. The 200tdi and 300tdi are easy to repair as they are just a diesel engine , No computers involved at all. It still gets me when ya see a 2.5 N/A 110 advertised I just dont understand how the engine would pull a bigger motor mine was POO even after a Landrover Tec turned the pump up it was not alot better. So 200TDi or 300TDi vote from me mate.

My dad's TD lasted 247K and it was worked hard from day 1. So they are not bad.
In it's lifetime it was on it's 4th clutch, 2nd turbo, 2nd injector pump. The head has never been off, the injectors have never been changed either! I have head of many TDI's far less reliable than that! :evil:
It would tow 3.5 ton, would do 80 when pushed. most happly cruised at 65. (and has done on the M5 south with a 109 on a flat bed ifor) Good engine i say. Everyone goes on the hearsay that goes about concerning the TD.
The engine condcerned after it started knocking (suspect big end) after doing such milage is now awaiting to be rebuilt and wll go in either mine or my little brothers series 2.
We replaced it with a recon TD, and now that is going strong.
