just a little advise needed..............
Miniman:
Yeh right I heard that before...lmao
Jim-Willy:
Doesn't really matter to me how good the TD5 is or isn't...... Its dearer than a TDi in general (Yes i know early Td5 can be cheaper than late TDi which kinda tells a story) and the TDi is gods own engine, Landys don't need to go any faster than a TDi does, they have no elecktrickery to fail and do huge mileages, mine will never be sold......
Miniman:
Mike thought you had a TDi in ya 90 at clog.....you was talking about a TD5. So ya only had TD5 in for how long...?

Devon - Rover...
Sorry, but to say everyone goes on hearsay for the TD...hmmm, as stated I've owned all of em, if you had a TD that would do 80 mph for any length of time without dying then I'd buy a new speedo, they are a way overstressed rehash of the NA, not by hearsay but by the fact that they die left right n centre on a regular basis should be enough, you may have been incredibly lucky with your first, but the engine is crap, it was an interim measure at best, a york diesel will go forever if looked after very very very very well...doesnt mean its a good engine.. :)
people go on hearsay?..... hearsay has to originate somewhere and for some reason,
the original poster stated he heard that the tdi will last for only 100k miles and straight away a multitude have jumped in to defend it left right n centre..
odd the TD doesnt seem to have been defended at all :) and that includes from people like myself with a fair bit of first hand expeirience of mine and other TD's
If you do have a TD then whatever you do dont get mud semi blocking the rad..overheating is its real achilles heel..
Cheers Steve

Thanks again for all the advise. It was my mistake, I miss read Sharpshooters reply on the other forum, he did say it was the td's that have there problems. My aploigies.
reading up in the landrover magazines it does seem that the tried and tested engines like the 200tdi seem to be the way forward for me. I not only need great off road ability, i also need it use it as a second car as it will have to replace my golf gti and the suzuki.
I am possibly asking on the wrong part of the forum, but does anyone have any opinions on the discovery 200tdi? Its the same engine as in the defender, and i no its dimentions are larger with larger overhang etc, but its off road a bility from what I have seen seems good. Is it heavier than the defender? Any other pro's and cons on it?
as a personal choice I think i would rather go for a defender, but I am slightly guided by price.
thanks again for the great adise
