the 200tdi had the lt77 gearbox, which, err... wasn't landrovers finest hour in terms of engineering..

depending on the milage on the vehicle I could believe it would require a new gearbox,  transfer boxes are more durable, but if the gearbox is gone that might explain a shade of wear and tear on the tx box too...

You can get a "tidy" 300 for £2500 so 3K is a dream.
