disco v8 and lt77 box into a series?

nah the series box would give up! probably better to get a stage 1 or a ninety with a V8...

Only if you have a heavy right foot!  As long as you're not flooring it, and have some mechanical sympathy you should be okay as peak torque isn't low down like on a TDi.

v8 for the "power", but drive it like a granny ;) sounds like a GREAT result from a load of effort! :D
