Insurance

Neil Jones:
From my personal experience I;d suggest taking the old girl off the road for about 4-5 years, maybe even 7 or 8, then someone might think about insuring you.  I know it has always (and still is) a nightmare trying to get insurance.

Having said that there are some, try NFU.

S188:
You'll have fun thats for sure!  Many insurers don't think people under 25 drive vehicles over 25 so your quotes will be all over the place.

I got my first actual polocy at 20 from footman james (£410) and its since come down to £380. Maybe it'll one day go down to the magic <£150 pund mark for a classic motor but I bet I won't be under 25 then. (It is full comp agreed value which none of my friends have on their clapped out peugoets which cost slightly more to insure!)

My problem is I have to declare it as modified (2.25 diesel in a series 1, oh the power!) I find internet quotes are complete [bauble] maybe for that resion but on the phone companys have a problem with my age rather than the vehicles mods (they don't seem to really care about them!, maybe a V8 would be differnt)

My advice is,  Ring up EVERYONE.  You'll get turned down by many but there could be as meany as 2 that'll touch you for a realistic number. Try the net for a laff but the phone seems to work best for me.  To avoid waisting loads of time state to them at the start of the call how old you and your vehcile are, if its been modified (even minor) and if it'll be your main vehicle.  If they say they can't do it ask what their rules are.  its alot better doing it that way than folowing their questions for 10 minutes before being told they wont insure you - you could have spent that 10 minutes on hold to the next company! Also some companys that say they DON'T do certain age groups in the advert MIGHT actully to get you a quote on the phone. Just keep trying till your really really fed up.

If your lucky enough to get 2 simular(ish) resionable quotes in the end, tell the more expencive company what the cheeper one is offering.  When they want to insurers seem to be able to knock off even a couple of hundred quid without batting an eye lid!  They'll try and take the [throw it] if they can but some become more resonable if pushed.  You can't do that on the internet!
