Info needed - Series 11A
DiscoveRay:
I'm going to look at a S11A, 109 station Wagon on Wednesday (camper project).
It has a 2.6 petrol, 6 cylinder lump, which I think was also used in the Rover P4. Was this a side valve engine? Can it run on unleaded without modification?
Anything in particular I should look for on this model?
Many thanks
Ray
bezzabsa:
unleaded - no, engine is silky smooth when running CORRECTLY, but thirsty (bad enough to make a V8 owner glad he hasnt got one!!)
blackbob:
run it on unleaded till it goes bang then fit a better engine
Rich_P:
The engine is indeed Inlet overhead with side exhaust valve. They're not particularly liked either, more often due to the pathetic output for the amount of fuel they consume and being such an old engine design makes it hard to service.
muckmoses:
You need the series II club.
They have a misplaced reputation as rivet counters but they are quite familiar with this engine.
You never know your purchase could be quite rare....
