UJ's, sorry longish post

<< < (2/5) > >>

lenrover:
Is it possible that you may of bent the yoke slightly when pressing out the old uj? this would mean that you would not be able to push the new one in true and square ? Just a thought :?

Snooky:
NO we tried it with the old UJ and fitted a treat, but just did that to prove a point didn't like the idea of fitting it to use seeing as it was hammered out
It was more the fact that on every side we stripped the casting slightly, wouldn't have thought it would have bent all yorks

extreme90:
have you removed the uj to see whats failed ?
afink a couple of the needle rollers have moved out of position and crushed inside the cup under the pressure of the vice, which would make the uj real stiff and notchy
i wont fit u/j's using a vice or press for this reason cos by just cleaning the yoke and tapping them home with a hammer you will soon no if the rollers are out of place
as for size, its not the diameter that changes its the lenght youve got a small cup and a large, and natrually mine has 2 different types to confuse things and every time i forget
hope this helps
dan

Snooky:
Checked all that, when you remove the UJ it shows signs where the rollers have scored the face slightly, nothing like that on the old one that came off, and all the cups seemed to be the same size.
Taping these ones with a hammer would not have worked, smacking very hard would have probably moved them, but as mentioned we had to work very hard to get these home, should not be that hard surely?

On previous ones you can push them most of the way then a little help with the vice to home them was all that was needed, this needed an extention to the vice handle... :?

extreme90:
now it is possable if you grip the yoke in the vice to cruch the hole slightly
was a experiment i said
anyhows nuff of that, it might be that the tollerence of the uj cup against the yoke wasnt any    so you crushed the cup in which would effectivly make them a RPITA to fit and would cause it to be very tight aswel
did u clean the hole out in the yoke thourghly ?
