I'd go for a Td5!!...

Failing that, I prefer my 300Tdi over my older 200Tdi... both good engines, but the 300 is a bit less tractor like.

A standard, a 300Tdi (in a Defender) is more powerful that a 200Tdi! - but a simple tweak and they both produce about the same power.

My 300TDi will be going even better soon - will hopefully have all the mods done for Mikes rolling road day... well that's the plan    - in saying that, it's going to cost me quite a bit in diesel!!.

A 300Tdi onto a LT77 isn't hard... you just need the rear cover (i.e. the flywheel housing) off a pre 300Tdi engine.
Then it's just the mounts, and pipework as mentioned - and ideally another Radiator (as 200 and 300 are different) - and so is the intercooler, but AFAIK you've already got a big Allisport Jobbie.
