Southdown snorkel
SnakeLogic:
Anybody with a Southdown snorkel on a 300 Tdi Disco (or similar) willing to post a pic of the engine compartment? I'm interested in seeing how they route the air passage around the windshield washer reservoir. I'm toying with the idea of trying to put in my own snorkel, as the Safari is pretty dear here in Japan.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Think on a TDI the snokel goes through the wing between the washer bottle and the air box, on my V8 with power streering the snokel enters the engine bay next to the air box, where you have to cut a new hole in box and blank off the front hole.
heres a rough drawing of how it goes.

Not sure if I haven't sent you this already matey, but there is a set of pics in my gallery that outline the process of building my V8's home made snorkel.
There are some engine bay pics but of course the V8 air intake is in a different place. Check the inside wing panel as mine had two precut holes with rubber covers ready and waiting for me to cut the outer wing.
Any questions, feel free to get in touch directly.

The metal section connects to a flexible section just after it passes into the wing then runs all the way down between the inner and outer wings to the front of the car where it comes into the engine bay just in front of the airbox. Misses the screenwash bottle altogether.
At least that's how mine is fitted - got fed up of talking to a brick wall, sorry asking for fitting instructions/template, so just got on and fitted it blind in the end.

Sorry i'm probably a bit late with this but have only just joined. I have a 300 tdi with a southdown snorkel, as stated the metal pipe connects to a flexible tube which runs down inside the wing. I actually changed the 300 air box to a 200 box (the cylindrical type) this allowed me to push it back further on to the top of the wheel arch allowing space for an additional battery. One thing worth noting is that where the 200 box has a rubber spout for drainage which is easy to fill the 300 box has drainage holes in the bottom that in extreme circumstances will allow water in!!
