It should do more than 45mph easily.  They can, and will do 70mph and maybe a bit more if you're pushing it hard.

So I think as I said earlier, either ignition problems or knackered engine or you're afraid of the noise. ;)

Other options to consider - replace the whole front axle (obviously with one with better swivel joints) - could be cheaper? And not a difficult job and it gives you more spare parts to clutter up the garage.

45mph   :roll: seems a little slow - James' Series IIa did 60mph with ease before he beefed the engine a bit - so I would suggest it may need a service - or a carb change etc.

I think it would be worth repairing even if you are going to sell, as I think you would get more for a vehicle with an MOT than without, but not 620 pounds worth.  But I am sure there would be no shortage of volunteers to help you fix it. :lol:

ive taken it to another garage this afternoon to get a second opinion - its a friend of my dads who used to race land rovers when he was younger so im hoping he will be more of a help than the other bloke! still waiting for him to get back to me though but fingers crossed its not as bad as first thought  [-o<

if not ill be on the lookout for some volunteers  :wink: i don't think she is quite ready to die just yet!!!

Good news ................... the second garage has said it doesn't need swivel things and it's going to cost about £200 for the lot  :D
