Following on slightly from my 'First Numpty Of The Season' thread, we had an interesting one last night.
Without too much detail.


Young lad, in car, with girlfriend.
Drives into the back of a parked Ambulance :shock:

Now thankfully the crew were still in the house with the patient they'd been called to
(if they'd been loading, or stood up in the rear......)

Given the facts that it was presumably a residential area;
1. It was probably subject to a 30 - 40MPH limit
2. The vehicle would have been parked in side-lights at least (ours tend to have LED lighting as well)
3. The amount of retro-reflective tape on the rear of them

How did he not see it???


Oh, & according to a relative who came with him; he never speeds, always wears a seatbelt, is careful..... etc.....

Yet the crews (& our Doctors) who are obviously used to dealing with RTA victims can (roughly) tell by the state of the car how fast it was travelling.

The consensus of opinion amongst the Ambulance crews was that there's probably going to be a charge of 'Dangerous Driving' proposed.

I left before the Police arrived, but it'll be interesting to follow this one up.

and also an ambulance has a quite distinctive shape and colour so its not something that isnt noticed easily :)

Unforunately this is quite common. I've seen a patrol car get totalled at the side of a road, even though it had all lights going at the time. Some people have no vision beyond their own little world inside their car.

I watched police on the M4 one night waving flourescent batons to move motorists out of the inside lane.  Half the drivers didn't even notice they were there.  It amazes me how unaware some drivers are.

Pulled up in a garage to fill up one day. Just reaching for the door and BANG!. Ambulance rocks and a BMW goes tearing off the forecourt. Got out and the rubber bump strip and most of the paint had gone in a long line down the side. At the front theres a BMW wing-mirror on the deck.

Jump back in, manged to stop the woman and she gets out.

'I didnt see you'

Its about 9 foot high, florescent oorange and yellow, more lights than an xmas tree etc. Told her to look at the side of her car, which came off a lot worse. At which point she broke down, saying it was hubbies car and she's not insured to drive it. In the end told her to stay put and called the police.
